"ONE THING I have desired of the Lord, that I will seek, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the BEAUTY of the Lord." psalm 27:4
"Give unto the Lord the glory due to his name; worship the Lord in the BEAUTY of holiness." psalm 29:2
If we only trust God because we want Him to give us something (a spouse, career, money, fame, beauty, healing, success, happiness... etc), we aren't really trusting Him at all.
If we only trust God for XX, then we are actually proving that XX is our god.
That's why we often see people turn away from Jesus when he hasn't given them what they wanted.
God wants to be our everything. He wants to be the ONE THING that we desire... And everything else becomes secondary.
We were created for Him alone and only as we rest in Him- trusting Him, doing as He says, hoping in Him, believing Him, and worshipping Him- will we become all that we were made to be.
We become like the one we worship. The things we worship that are not God are called idols. Idols are dead. Jesus is alive. The more we worship dead things.. The more we die inside. The more we worship the living God... The more alive we become.
